The Data Lab and Personalization team partnered on creating a new online recommendation model for the product page utilizing Nordstrom’s unique advantage of in-store stylist data.

WHAT

  • Validation of new algorithm for online recommendations based on in-store sales

WHY

  • To measure the effect of a new feature on KPIs and to manage potential negative unintended consequences

HOW

  • Designed and launched A/B test online with the following conditions:

    • A: Control - product page as-is

    • B: Product page with new recommendations, called “Our Stylists Suggest”

  • Determined complicated qualification criteria for assignment of audience into test to ensure results

OUTCOMES

  • The test reached statistical significance with condition B (with “Our Stylists Suggest”) showing a distinct increase in incremental
